Marilyn Sue Lyons

Calais – Sue Lyons, 67, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2011 surrounded by her family at her home following a courageous and valiant battle with cancer. Sue was born in St. Stephen, NB on June 12, 1943, daughter of the late Ross and Charlotte “Christine” (Olsson) Mowatt. Raised in Calais, she attended local schools and was a graduate of Calais Memorial High School. On December 28, 1964, Sue married Lendall Lyons of Presque Isle. For a short time she worked as a C.N.A. at A.R. Gould Hospital in Presque Isle, and at Barnard’s Nursing Home in Calais. During the holidays she would often bring a resident home that had no family in the area to share time with her family. Sue soon realized that she wanted to be home with her four girls. She became “Moma Sue” & “Nannie” to so many children until a year ago. Sue truly loved all of the little ones she helped raise through the years. She enjoyed playing cards, camping on Meddybemps Lake, and playing the Wii. Her most memorable moments were those spent with her loving husband, daughters and grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Sue was predeceased by her sister, Burnette Young on February 13, 2011. Surviving are her husband of 46 years, Lendall Lyons; her four daughters, Jacqueline Page and her husband Jeff of Lincoln, Crystal Anastos and her husband Dwaine of Millinocket, Pamela Page and her husband Leigh of Lincoln, and Lynette Leighton and her husband John of Lincoln; ten grandchildren, Justin Page and his companion Gina of Lincoln, Devon Page and his fiancée Katie Smith of Lincoln, Trevor Page of Lincoln, Joseph Lyons of East Millinocket, Senior Airman Anthony McConnell U.S.A.F. stationed at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, GA, Cameron McConnell of Kathleen, Georgia, Jocelyn Raffiani of Lincoln, Madison Page of Lincoln, and Christina and Kelsi Leighton of Lincoln; two great-grandchildren, Connor and Rian Page-Ireland; her sister, Joan Corning of Calais and her son Ronald Corning and his partner Anthony Wilkinson of Dallas, TX; a brother, Carl Mowatt of Tampa, FL; brother-in-law Arnold Corning of Meddybemps; many nieces and nephews; and numerous dear friends. Sue was looking forward to the birth of her third great-grandchild, Leland Page, due in August. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A celebration of Sue’s life will be held in the funeral home 1 p.m. Friday with Pastor Bob Hinton officiating. Burial will follow in the Calais Cemetery. Donations in Sue’s memory may be made to the Joseph Lyons Autism Awareness Scholarship Fund, c/o Bangor Savings Bank in Calais or Millinocket.
