Obituary for Marion E Johnson

Meddybemps – Marion Elaine “Sissy” Johnson, 85, passed away Friday, December 28, 2012 at Calais Regional Hospital. Sissy was born in Marine City, MI on October 3, 1927, daughter of the late Clay and Blanche (Howland) Hayward. She graduated from Calais Academy and worked as a store clerk for Woolworth Store in Calais until she met her future husband, Paul Johnson. They were married in Calais on December 24, 1949. In 1972 Sissy started her career as a letter carrier for the Calais Post Office, retiring in 1989. She had a love for music and in her younger years was a member of the Sweet Adeline’s. Sissy also played piano for local Baptist churches, including Milltown, NB, Baring and Meddybemps. She was a member of Boyd-Smith V.F.W. Auxiliary 9779 and enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, telling stories, cooking and baking. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Corliss Keef and Jeri-Mae McCoy; and five brothers, Hazen, Clint, Sam, Jon and infant brother Jon. Surviving are her loving husband of 63 years Paul Johnson; six children, Larry Johnson and his wife Brenda of Kinder, LA, Patty Tefry of Little Ridge, NB, Mark Johnson and his wife Brenda of Greenwood, IN, Peter Johnson and his wife Janet of Buxton, Beth Johnson and her companion Todd Bassett of Alexander, and Bert Johnson and his wife Kim of Calais; thirteen grandchildren, Joshua Parker and wife Donna, Joel Parker and wife Virginia, Sarah Beth Rice and husband Aaron, David Johnson, Kyle Johnson, Bradley Johnson, Andrew Johnson and fiancé Abby, Robert Johnson and companion Keri, Sean Trefry, Michael Ross and companion Kaila Dineen, Amanda Johnson and Kevin Ross Jr., and Jasmine Elaine Ross; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Patty Hayward and Sara Cameron, both of Calais, and Ann Hacker and her husband Kenneth of Ontario; and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A celebration of Sissy’s life will be held in the funeral home 11 a.m. Thursday, January 3 with Pastor Ray Morse officiating. Burial will follow in Calais Cemetery.
