Obituary for Marjorie Laura Bishop Hundley (Bishop)

Perry – Marjorie “Didi” Bishop Hundley, 88, loving wife for 62 years of Douglas Vernon Hundley (deceased) of Danville, Virginia, died July 24, 2016. She was the daughter of Dr. Carl and Aileen (Cunningham) Bishop, born on October 13, 1927, in Plainfield, New Jersey. She attended the Hartridge School, where she was a member of the Art and Dramatic Clubs, and Hollins College.

She met her husband in 1951 at Virginia Polytechnic Institute, where she was secretary to three professors in the Horticulture Department, and he, taking statistical courses on the second floor.
They moved to Yorktown, Virginia, where he was employed by the Naval Mine Depot, and at that time, their first child. Stuart Bancroft Hundley arrived. From there, they transferred to Fort Detrick in Frederick, Maryland, the place of birth of their second child, Barbara Carol Hundley; to Monsanto Chemical Company in St. Louis, MO; to the Naval Ammunition Depot in Crane, Indiana and finally, to Aberdeen Proving Ground in Edgewood, Maryland. From there, to their retirement home in Perry, Maine.

Over the years, she served as den mother and room mother for her son, room mother for her daughter, deacon and elder for the Fallston Presbyterian Church in Maryland, member of the Hartford Symphony Association in Maryland, secretary and president for the Perry Congregational Church’s Woman’s Fellowship, a brief stint as editor of the church newsletter, chancel choir member, member of the Dennysville Festival Choir, one of “Perry Pickups” choristers and volunteer for the Lincoln Memorial Library in Dennysville.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol, son-in-law Don, and granddaughter, Deleslyn; grandson, Nathaniel, his wife, Carrie, and great-granddaughters, Haley and Emmie; sister Dale and her husband Wheat and three nieces, Kathy, Suzanne and Shelley and three grandnieces; two other granddaughters by her son, Crystal and Michelle and two great-granddaughters, Katherine and Lily and a nephew, Jonathan by her predeceased sister, Helen. Also predeceased are her parents and son.
