Obituary for Marjory E. Dineen

Calais – Marjory E. Dineen, 88, died Monday, May 1, 2006 at a Calais hospital. She was born in St. Stephen, N.B. on October 22, 1917, daughter of the late Harry and Maude (Young) Thompson. For a number of years, Marjory and her husband Dan operated a radio store in Calais. Marjory added a penny candy counter and sold candy to the children who attended the nearby schools, as well as the many neighborhood children who came in with a penny or two and left with a bag of treats. Marjory worked many years as a waitress at the S. Croix Hotel and the Angelholm Restaurant. One of Marge’s favorite pastimes was gambling, from family poker games, to bingo, to trips to Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Marge loved to travel, whether to Bangor shopping or on trips to Ireland, Hawaii, California and Florida. No one had to ask her twice if she wanted to go anywhere, she was always ready for any activity and loved to be on the go. Some of Marge’s happiest times were spent relaxing at her sons’ cottages and sitting by the lake. During the winter months, Marge would knit mittens for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She donated many pairs to the local school and to various organizations. Marjory will be truly missed by her family who had fondly nicknamed her “The General”. Marjory loved to make plans for everyone and they were usually carried out to the letter. Marjory was predeceased by her husband, Daniel Dineen; a son, Douglas; a sister, Beatrice Thompson; granddaughter Cathy Estey; and a daughter-in-law, Violet (Day) Dineen. Marjory is survived by her daughter and husband, Deanna and Al Crosby; her sons, Norman and wife June, Vincent and friend Janet Ketchen, Dayton and wife Eunice, and William and wife Carole; her grandchildren and their families, Mary Barnett, Theresa Estey, Deborah Dahlin, Tim Dineen, Paula Martgan, Michael McLane, Christina Eales, Pat Dineen, Dan Dineen, Kimberly D’Alessandris, and Michael Dineen; many great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and friends, Leoniece Kenison, Kay Gaddis, Greta Grant, and Margaret Kelly.
