Pleasant Point – Martha Julianne Nicholas, 87, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017 surrounded by her family at Calais Regional Hospital. Martha was born in Pleasant Point on September 15, 1929, daughter of Louis and Josephine (Gabriel) Bailey.
After attending school at St. Ann’s School, Pleasant Point, and Shead High School, Martha worked for the local sardine factories, as a housekeeper for the priest at St. Ann’s, Pleasant Point Housing Authority, and most recently for Passamaquoddy Digital until her retirement. She enjoyed playing Bingo, dominos, making seasonal wreaths, and going on SnapChat with her two special granddaughters, Kat Moore and Kasey Nicholas-Smith.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Nicholas; a daughter, Barbara Ann and husband Danny Linehan; great-granddaughter, Alessa Nicholas; her four brothers, Alexander, John, Joseph and Stanislaus Bailey; and her faithful canine companion Blackie. Surviving are nine children, Rita White and husband Jim of Coal Run, OH, Inez Nicholas of Pleasant Point, Jack Nicholas and wife Carolyn of Dennysville, Richard Nicholas and wife Patty of Bath, Cherie Nicholas and companion Ron Pond of Pleasant Point, Martin Nicholas and wife Debbie of Pleasant Point, Linda Nicholas of Pleasant Point, Bea N. Worster and husband Larry of Gorham, and Rachael Nicholas and companion Cliff Smith of Pleasant Point; 24 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; many nieces and nephews; and her “great-grand dogs”, Simon and Rosie.
Visiting hours will be held at her home, 60 Warrior Rd., Pleasant Point, beginning 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2017, until 10 a.m. Friday, April 7. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Kevin J. Martin, Celebrant, 11 a.m. Friday, April 7, 2017 at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church in Eastport. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Point Tribal Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
