Mary Lou Burpee, of Calais, passed away on March 6, 2024 in Robbinston. Born in 1933 in Ledyard, Connecticut, she was the daughter of Cora Lewis and Ransford Collins. Mary Lou was predeceased by her husband, Norman Burpee, and Fred Dart Rogers from New London, Connecticut (died 1977). She was also predeceased by her son, Fred Rogers of Calais (died 2016).
Mary Lou is survived by her daughters Ruth Rogers of Robbinston, Susan Binford of San Diego, and Allison Rogers of Calais. She is also survived by her grandchildren Mark Rogers, Jennifer Binford, Kyle Binford, Sean Sadler and Paige Martinez, and great-grandson Lucas Rogers.
Mary Lou was a loving mother, devoted wife, and dedicated homemaker. Born and raised in Connecticut, she loved the ocean, especially the beaches of Rhode Island where she visited often with her children. She was a creative soul who served as a choir director, pianist, organist, composer and painter. She had also traveled extensively, throughout the U.S. and Europe. She also loved to garden and was an avid reader. She also had lived for several years in San Diego and Utah.
Mary Lou will be dearly missed by her remaining family, who are holding a private memorial. The family also wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff and management of Robbinston Bridge Home, where she spent the last year and a half of her life.
