Calais – Mary Carol Porter Deacon, 80, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Calais Regional Hospital. Carol was born in Eastport on July 31, 1934, daughter of the late Edward and Hazel (Stanhope) Johnson. After attending schools in Milltown, NB, she married Erlen Porter Jr. on September 20, 1952. Carol became an Education Technician for Calais Elementary School, from which she retired. After the death of Erlen, she married Harold Deacon Jr. on January 3, 1998. Carol was a faithful member of the Calais Seventh-day Adventist Church. She enjoyed being active in the many activities at the church and spending quiet time at the family camp on Howard Lake.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband Erlen; her second husband Harold; a son Dale Porter in 1974; a brother Ross Johnson; and a brother-in-law John Wood. Carol is survived by her four children, Ronald Porter of Charlotte, James Porter and wife Theresa of Calais, Gary Porter of Calais, and Wayne Porter and wife Tamia of Rollinsford, NH; eight grandchildren, Christine Trynor, April Porter, Robert Porter, Lisa Newsome, Amy James, Joshua Porter, Amanda Porter, and Jason Porter; six great-grandchildren, and was looking forward to her seventh due in March; two sisters-in-law, Jean Wood of Calais, and Catherine Johnson of St. Stephen; and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A celebration of Carol’s life will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, January 22, at Calais Seventh-day Adventist Church, 8 Chapel St., Calais. Burial will take place in Calais Cemetery at a later date.
