Eastport – Mary Whelpley Davis, 90, passed away on April 10, 2019 at Eastport Memorial Nursing Home. Mary was born to Afton and Rose (Cassidy) Whelpley in Eastport on Christmas Day, 1928. In 1948 she married Charles E. Davis Jr., together they started a family and began a lifetime of dedication to each other and the community they were so proud to be a part of.
Over the years Mary worked at the local fish factories, as a beautician, and as a home health aide with Catholic Charities. She made her house a home for not only her children, but she welcomed everyone, including strays, Mary was a huge animal lover. Her house was a meeting place for decades where the neighborhood kids were fed, baseball was on TV, and gatherings happened on a whim. She was always checking in and driving around the elderly people of Eastport, delivering baked treats to the police department, volunteering at the Eastport Thrift Store or just socializing with her many friends.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Charles Davis Jr; her son, Charles Davis III; daughter, Pauline Davis-Kelly; two sisters, Beatrice Reilly and Joanne Hayward and a brother, John Whelpley.
Mary will be remembered fondly by her daughter, Caroline Melidossian and her husband Malcolm; a granddaughter, Meara Melidossian, all of RI; cousin, Michael Brown of Perry; many nieces and nephews, including her special niece, Catherine Ann Whelpley; her feline companion, Angus and so many friends, both new and old.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 am, Friday, July 5th at St. Joseph’s Church, Washington St., Eastport. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
