Mary Gerturde Merrithew

Baileyville – Mary “Gert” Merrithew, 98, died peacefully on Sunday, October 05, 2008 at a Calais nursing home. Gert was born in Boston, MA, on Feb. 6, 1910. She enjoyed horses and vacationing on Swan’s Island. Some of her most memorable moments were spent with her friends on the senior citizen bus trips. Gert was predeceased by her husband, Lewis “Dennis” Merrithew; a son, Eugene Merrithew; and a daughter, Myrtle Clough. Surviving are her son, James Merrithew and his wife Maralie of Baileyville; a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Merrithew of Calais; a son-in-law, Lawrence Clough of Ellsworth; eight grandchildren, Cindy True, Susan Maioriello, Jaynee McLellan, Denise McShane, Eugene Merrithew Jr., Lorie Merrithew, Beth Merrithew and Jenifer Craig; and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held 1 -2 p.m. Friday, October 10, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais, where a funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery, Baileyville.
