Pleasant Point – Mary Annunciata Minno, “Memaw”, 81, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born in Pleasant Point on March 30, 1935, daughter of the late John and Evelyn (Mitchell) Newell. After graduating from Shead Memorial High School, she enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps, serving in the operating rooms on various bases. Following her service, she moved to Cambridge, MA where she worked for Cambridge Hospital, Central Hospital in Somerville, MA, and most recently Youville Hospital in Cambridge, retiring in 1999. After retiring, Mary returned home to Maine and eventually settled in Calais. She enjoyed playing Bingo, going to Hollywood Slots, and above all, spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by two brothers, Aloysious and Timothy Newell; a sister Margaret Bailey; two nieces Evelyn and Susan; and a nephew Matthew. Surviving are her daughter, Adele Moore and husband Gerry; two grandchildren, Brittani Leighton and companion Doug, and Molly Moore; three great-grandchildren, Jaylen Moore, and Journey and Andee Leighton, all of Pleasant Point; four nieces, Molly Newell and wife Birda, Rena Newell, and Martina Fortin and husband Herman, all of Pleasant Point, and Fran Mershon and husband Greg of Los Lunas, NM; five nephews, Ryan Newell and wife Lisa, Louis Newell and companion Tristin, Timothy “TJ” Newell Jr., all of Pleasant Point, and Wayne Newell and wife Sandy, and Phillip Newell, all of Indian Township; and many great-nieces, great-nephews, and numerous special friends.
Visiting hours will begin 11a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2016 at her daughter’s home, Adele Moore, 61 Warrior Rd., Pleasant Point, until 10 a.m. Monday, August 29. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Kevin J. Martin 11 a.m. Monday, August 29 at St. Joseph R.C. Church in Eastport. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Point Tribal Cemetery with military honors. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
