Mary Elizabeth Porter (McLean)

Calais – Mary Elizabeth Porter, 85, passed away Friday, December 06, 2013 in Machias with her daughter by her side. Mary was born in Calais on May 24, 1928, daughter of the late Wallace and Zeltha (Smith) McLean. She attended Calais Academy and worked various jobs until marrying Frank Howard Porter on August 25, 1955. Mary and Howard operated Calais Laundromat for many years and then she worked for Sweet Things bakery. Mary enjoyed puzzles, staying active, and going for walks.

In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her beloved Howard in 2008; a grandson Steven Porter in 2005; and all of her siblings. Surviving are her daughter Kathy Goodine and husband David of Alexander; two sons, Gary and Douglas Porter, both of Calais; five grandchildren, Robbie Seelye, Erin Norton and husband Chet, Joshua Goodine, Jason Goodine and fiancé Ashley MacDonald, and Justina Goodine; three great-grandchildren, Aaron, Kassidi, and Jakob; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2013 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, December 14, in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Calais Cemetery.
