Leona (Bedford) McVicar in Oak Bay, New Brunswick. She married Wallace Small on Christmas Eve, 1939 with whom she started a large family that she took pride in raising in Red Beach. In addition to her husband and parents Mary was predeceased by four of her ten children, Raymond, Margaret, William “Billy” and Douglas Small; four siblings, Harry, Walter, Beatrice and Ruth McVicar; son-in-law, Don Chaloult and daughter-in-law Mary Lou Small. She is survived by her six children, George Small and his wife Carmen of Robbinston, Robert Small and his wife Sandra of Milltown, Diane Chaloult of Biddeford, Wayne Small and his fiancée Sondra Alley of Jonesport, Beatrice Cheney and her husband Clifford of Charlotte and Wallace Small Jr. and his fiancée Stacie Hood of Lubec; 27 grandchildren and many great grandchildren whom she cherished immensely; several nieces, nephews and cousins and her daughter-in-law, Susan Small of Red Beach whom Mary lived with during her later years. Mary spent her time caring for the ones she loved, she welcomed any and all alike into her home and treated even a stranger like family. She would go without in an effort to help someone in need. Mary enjoyed doing puzzles and could sometime be found knitting, even though she never really enjoyed knitting she wanted to be sure everyone was outfitted with socks for the winter months. Mary will be missed but always remembered by so many. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais beginning at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 29th.
