Pembroke – Muriel Wallace, 90, died on April 14, 2010 at the Eastport Memorial Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. Muriel was born on October 4, 1919 in Eastport, the eldest child of Arthur and Nora Richardson. Muriel attended Eastport schools and graduated from Shead Memorial High School class of 1936. She then attended the Auburn Maine School of Commerce for 3 years where she earned her State of Maine Business Teacher’s Certificate. She worked in several business offices in the Auburn/Lewiston area and returned to Eastport in the 1940’s and taught in the Business Department at Shead along with Helen Capen. Muriel worked in several business offices in Eastport; namely, Riviera Packing Co., Argenta Products Co., and Jacobson, Inc. She then returned to teaching at Shead Memorial High School from which she retired in 1981. Muriel and her husband, Merlin ran a successful wild blueberry operation until Merlin’s death in November of 1990. In addition to her parents Muriel was predeceased by her husband Merlin Wallace; a brother Paul Richardson and his wife Nina; a brother-in-law, Gerald Maloney Sr. and a nephew Gerald Maloney Jr. Surviving are her sister, Ruth Maloney of Robbinston; nieces and nephews, Jeanne Mason and her husband Dr. Roger Mason of Trinidad, Doug Richardson and his wife Shirley of Eastport, Jack Maloney and his wife Bernadette of Perry, Julie Leppin and her husband Charlie of Eastport, Carrol Wallace Jr. and his wife Charlene of Calais and Pam Wallace; great nieces and nephews, Drs. Heidi and Alan Sarabia, Patrick Calder, Ben Maloney, Nora Calder, Derek Maloney, Haley Richardson, Charlie Leppin, Arielle Richardson and Zach Maloney. Muriel was very active in community affairs. She did a lot of volunteer work for the Pembroke Food Pantry and the Meals for Me Program for senior citizens. She took an active part in her church affairs and was always available when a helping hand was needed. Muriel said: Please do not mourn my death. Instead, celebrate and remember all the good times we had. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 17 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Pembroke with Father Jim Plourde officiating. Burial will follow at Clarkside Cemetery, Pembroke. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Muriel and Merlin Scholarship fund, Shead High School, 89 High St. Eastport, 04631; The Peavey Memorial Library, 26 Water St., Eastport or to St. Joseph’s or St. John's Catholic Church, c/o BKT Parish, P.O.
