Calais – Maurice Gilbert “Moe” Barnard Sr., 75, passed away Friday, June 3, 2011 at Calais Regional Hospital after a long illness. He was born in Calais on September 14, 1935, son of the late Arthur and Gertrude (White) Barnard. Maurice served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 – 1958. He worked for the City of Calais for many years. Moe was a lifetime member of the St. Croix Bowling Club and a past-member of Sherman Bros. Post #3 American Legion and the Calais Lions Club. He enjoyed bowling in the winter months and camping during the summer months. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Richard, and a sisterMarilyn in 2003. Surviving are his wife Barbara (Fraser) Barnard; a step-son James Fraser and his wife Nancy of St. Stephen, N.B.; a daughter Karen Bradford and her husband Bruce of St. Stephen, N.B.; six sons, Dan Barnard and his wife Amy, Jeff Barnard and his wife Tari, Moe Barnard Jr. and his wife Kathy, and Kevin Barnard and his wife Jill, all of Calais, Steven Barnard of Machias, and Ronnie Barnard of Bangor; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; a brother Gary Barnard of St. Stephen, N.B.; three sisters, Betty Arseneau of St. Stephen, N.B., Sandra Libby of Campobello Island, N.B., and Sharon Doten of Calais; and many dear friends. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Calais Cemetery with Pastor Bob Hinton officiating. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
