Obituary for Melva Downes

Dennysville – Melva Brownie Downes, 93, passed away at Calais Regional Hospital on September 29, 2018. Melva was born in Eastport on November 17, 1925 to Carlton M. and Berla E. (Brown) Hayward. Melva grew up in Edmunds where she attended school and met the love of her life, Fletcher Downes. They were married shortly after high school and began a family together. She spent most of her days caring for her family at home, she cooked, tended her garden, and when needed, she would paint, rake, shovel or mow. She loved her family and worked hard to provide for them. Melva also cooked for many years at Hinckley Point Club House in Dennysville alongside of her husband.

In addition to her parents Melva was predeceased by her husband, Fletcher Downes; her daughter, Cinda Robinson; son, Dennis Downes and her loving companion, Dale Boyce.

She is survived by her daughter, Darlene Lincoln of Baileyville; nine grandchildren, Benai Parks and her companion Mike Bithers of Baileyville, Brandi Seelye of Bradenton, FL, Buffi Bacon of Limestone, Brandon Bacon and his companion Chrissy Roussell of Baileyville, Fletcher Downes and his wife Tammi of Charlotte, Carlton Downes of Edmunds, Jesse Downes of Charlotte, Melissa Mahar and her husband Tommy of Pembroke and Jeffrey Robinson and his wife Jennifer of Pembroke; son-in-law, Jeffrey Robinson of Lincoln; daughter-in-law, Abbigail Downes of Edmunds and her stepdaughter, Belinda Toby and her husband Reggie of Lakeville.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, October 11th at Dennysville Cemetery with Pastor Lori Lynch officiating. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
