Melvin Harold Greenlaw

Calais – Melvin Harold Greenlaw, 88, passed away Saturday, August 10, 2013 at his home with his family by his side. Melvin was born in Calais on May 3, 1925, son of the late Parker and Adelaide (Pike) Greenlaw. He attended school in Calais and was drafted into the U.S. Army during WWII. Melvin served with Company C 2d Tank Battalion and earned the Purple Heart. After the war, Melvin returned to Calais and married the love of his life, Eleanor Keene. He became employed with the Calais School Dept. as a bus driver for many years and in 1963 he started his career with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1985. Following retirement, Melvin enjoyed fishing on Meddybemps Lake.

In addition to his parents, Melvin was predeceased by his beloved wife Eleanor in 2006; three sons, Edward, Ernest, and David; a sister Lois Greenlaw and her husband Larry; a brother Francis Greenlaw; and a brother-in-law Stanely McConvey. Surviving are his son Gerald Greenlaw and wife Robin of Baileyville; daughters-in-law Janet Greenlaw of Calais and Linda Bragdon of FL; grandchildren, Melissa Johnson and husband Dana, Kristen Smith, Jarret Greenlaw, Jamie Greenlaw and wife Irma, and Brian McArthur; several great-grandchildren; three sisters, Pauline McConvey of Calais, Mabel Foster and husband Bobby of Calais, and Marion Brown of Eastport; sister-in-law Gladys Greenlaw of Calais; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend Peter Levi of Calais.

A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Calais Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
