Michael Evan Kilby, 35, died tragically in a motor vehicle accident in Pembroke on May 1, 2019. Michael was born on January 22, 1984, in Bangor, to Ronald and Helen (Curtis) Kilby.
Michael attended elementary school in Edmunds, graduated from Shead High School in Eastport in 2002, and attended Washington County Community College for two years. On July 7, 2012, he married Lacey (Washburn) Kilby, and they began their married life in Edmunds, Maine. On May 10, 2015, (Mothers' Day) their son, Michael Evan Kilby, Jr. was born. Michael, Lacey, and Mikey lived in Michael's great-grandparents home and proudly proceeded to continue the tradition of farming.
Michael was self-employed and loved being on the water with his boat, the F/V Rylan M. Michael fished for lobsters, scallops, and urchins, making many friends along the way. He was known for collecting and selling scrap metal, did snow plowing and sanding for several local schools. Michael intensely loved teaching his son, Mikey, about farm life, raising and caring for animals, how to crush cars, and how to tinker with an engine. Michael was known to his friends and community for always lending a helping hand whenever possible. Michael enjoyed holiday gatherings and always contributed to the conversations with his humor and strong opinions.
Michael was predeceased by his grandmother, Ella Kilby, in October 1984, by his grandfather Clinton Kilby in December 2002, his grandfather, Myron Curtis, in January 2018, and his grandmother, Elizabeth, in February 2019.
Michael is survived by his wife, Lacey (Washburn) Kilby, son, Michael Kilby, Jr., his parents Helen and Ronald Kilby, of Edmunds; his father and mother-in-law, Scott and Gail Washburn of Clinton, his sister and brother-in-law, Michelle and Judson Curtis and their children Rylan, Kagan, and Londyn, special aunts and uncles Gladys and James Robinson, Eileen Dougherty and Charlie Curtis, along with several additional aunts and uncles and several dear and special cousins. Michael leaves behind special and very dear friends, Brandon Cox, Matthew Seeley, Brian Hallowell, Scott Murphy, Randy Cox, Albie Wallace, Cody Preston, and Willie Perry.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 11, at 11 a.m. at the Edmunds Consolidated School Gym. For those who wish, gifts in memory of Michael may be made to Helen and Ron Kilby who will establish a scholarship fund for Mikey.
