Micheal M. Phelps

Micheal Michele Phelps, 49, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.  Micheal was born in Calais on November 14, 1973, daughter of Alvah Phelps and Sandra Melanson.

Micheal attended Woodland schools.  She moved to North Carolina, working various jobs, until returning home to Maine where she worked as a cook for Yancy’s in Calais.  Micheal loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and cooking.  She was in her happy place outside enjoying the peace and quiet of nature.

Micheal was predeceased by a son, Ray Matthew Sockabasin; her maternal grandparents, Dennis and Lucy Melanson; paternal grandfather Lee Phelps; an aunt Donna Bailey; and two uncles, Bill “Hank” Bailey and Chris Thornton.  Surviving are her mother, Sandy Melanson and husband Ray Sockabasin of Indian Township; father Alvah Phelps of Princeton; daughter Samantha Phelps of Baileyville; granddaughter Raye Sockabasin of Indian Township; paternal grandmother Margaret Phelps of Princeton; sister Amanda Newman of Princeton; brothers Jason Phelps and fiancé Melissa of Princeton, and Nathan Phelps and fiancé Jessica Moreside of Baileyville; her companion Wayne Jipson of Lambert Lake; special friends Jody and Kim Dyer of Lambert Lake; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, extended family and friends.
