Baileyville – Mildred Jean Spearin, 74, died Sunday, January 29, 2006 at her home. Jean was born October 14, 1931 in Dumbarton, N.B., daughter of the late A. Irving and Ozema (Martin) Gass. She married Keith Dexter Spearin on December 22, 1956. Jean was employed as an English teacher for Woodland High School in Baileyville. Upon her retirement, she served on the school board for Woodland High School and was employed as a proof reader for the Calais Advertiser. Jean was a lifelong member of the National Honor Society and enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and traveling with family. She was predeceased by her husband Keith; a son, Michael Spearin; a sister, Phyllis Woodside, and two brothers, John and Donald Gass. Surviving are her daughter, Elizabeth “Betsy” Spearin of New Gloucester; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Thursday, 6-8 p.m. at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. Funeral services will be held Friday, 3 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Bernie Hammond officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Woodland Cemetery.
