Baileyville

Mildred E. “Millie” Hanson, 86, passed away surrounded by family on May 5th, at her daughter’s home in Winterport.  Millie was born in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, on April 28, 1938, daughter of George and Adelaide (Tyler) Elliott.

Millie graduated from St. Croix High School, Class of 1956, and Eastern Maine General Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1959.  In that same year, she married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Hanson.  Millie started her career in nursing at Calais Regional Hospital, retiring in 2003 with over 44 years of dedicated and compassionate service.

In addition to her parents George and Adelaide Elliott, Millie was predeceased by her beloved husband Kenneth Hanson.  Surviving are her children, Keith Hanson of Baileyville; DeAnna Gott and husband Joseph of Winterport; granddaughter, Ashley Gott Haase and her husband Brad and great grandchildren Lucas and Emma of Hampden; sister Constance Croman of Westbrook, and many nieces and nephews.

Her illness in the past two years gave her the chance to get to know her two great grandchildren who gave her much joy. Seeing them always put a smile on her face.

Millie was a member of the Red Hat Society and loved taking her daily walks in Baileyville with friends. She was entertained with crossword puzzles, knitting, and most of all, spending time with her family.  Millie enjoyed game shows, old movies and playing card games. She cherished her new friends Joan and Annie after moving to Winterport. She enjoyed their many visits, cribbage and card games.
