Obituary for Mina Joanne Seavey

Baileyville – Mina Joanne Seavey, 79, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at home with her family by her side following a courageous battle with cancer. Joanne was born in St. George, NB on July 29, 1935, daughter of the late Albert and Mina Louis (Eldridge) Henry. She graduated from Eastern Charlotte Regional High School, Class of 1953, and furthered her education at Modern Business School in Saint John, NB. Following business school, Joanne worked as a secretary for the military facility in St. George, NB from 1954 to 1955, and at St. Croix Paper Company from 1955 to 1957. In December of 1955 Joanne married James Seavey and she decided to take a leave from work to raise her two sons, Bill and Mark. In 1968 Joanne started working at Princeton Elementary School in the cafeteria and retired in 1995 as the Food Service Director. She was a past member of Order of the Eastern Star Royal Chapter No. 145 in Princeton and a member of Princeton Congregational Church where she was active in the Princeton Sunshine Circle. Joanne and James enjoyed the outdoors together fishing, camping and gardening.

In addition to her parents, Joanne was predeceased by her husband James; and a brother Gary Henry. Surviving are her two sons, William Seavey and his wife Heidi of South Princeton, and Mark Seavey and his wife Kathy of Baileyville; four grandchildren, William Seavey Jr. of Calais, Andrew Seavey and his companion Megan Lord of Baring, Michealene Spencer and her husband Ian of Baileyville, and Phylicia Bonavida and her husband Bradley of Kileen, TX; four great-grandchildren, Tristan, Logan, Haidyn, and True; four sisters, Beverly George of Fredericton, NB, Patricia “Ruth” Justason and her husband Blair of Saint John, NB, Lila Henry and her husband Gary of Ottawa, ON, and Mary Ellen Lee and her husband Robert of St. George, NB; many nieces and nephews; numerous special close friends; and her canine companion Barney.

Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais, where a celebration of Joanne’s life will be held 3 p.m. Friday. Burial will follow in Princeton Cemetery. Donations in Joanne’s memory may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Ave, Ste 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266 ( www.pancan.org ).
