Miriam Elsie Leighton

Baileyville – Miriam “Mitzi” Leighton, 76, passed away with her family by her side on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at a Bangor hospital following a brief illness. Mitzi was born in Dorchester, MA on Feb. 14, 1933, one of eleven children to William and Elsie Woolf. She was a member of the Spednic Club and enjoyed fishing, Bingo, helping in the kitchen at the Bingo hall, camping at Grand Lake and spending time with her family. Mitzi was predeceased by her husband, Charles Leighton Sr. in 1980. Surviving are her children, Charles and Janet Leighton, Pam and Lloyd Oakes, and Steven Leighton and Charlotte, all of Baileyville; six grandchildren, Lisa, Marilyn, Charlie, Avis, Karen and Brittney; six great-grandchildren, Andrew, Ian, Mackenzie, Miranda, Matthew and Myra; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
