Muriel Vesta Matthews (Moreside)

Harrington and Baileyville – Muriel V. (Moreside) Matthews, 92, passed away peacefully at Courtland Rehabilitation and Living Center in Ellsworth. Muriel was born April 27, 1923, the daughter of the late Roy and Pearl (Scott) Moreside. She graduated from Woodland High School, Class of 1940, where she met her future husband, Robert, the love of her life. Muriel was a homemaker, and a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed sewing, crafting, crocheting, knitting and gardening.

In addition to her parents, Muriel was predeceased by her husband Robert Matthews; a son Thomas; great-grandson Rainer; and two brothers, Philip and Carlton Moreside. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Dowling and her husband James of Harrington; and two special grandchildren, Sherri Lynn Cox of Prospect Harbor and Thomas James and his wife Tina of Newburgh. Muriel was blessed with three great-grandchildren, Amy Cox of Prospect Harbor, and Ava and Addison Dowling of Newburgh; and several special nieces and nephews.
