Indian Township – Nakoma J Gabriel, 42, unexpectedly passed away at his home on May 22, 2020. Nakoma was born in Calais to Roger Ritter and Lorraine Gabriel on September 26, 1977. He grew up in Indian Township, graduated from Calais High School, class of ’95 and later went on to earn his associate degree in Business at Washington County Community College. Nakoma loved learning and dreamed of acquiring his master’s degree one day. He was once chosen from a national competition to participate in an internship in Washington, D.C. that coincided with his drive to help others.
Nakoma was smart, talented and had an infectious laugh that brought joy to everyone around him. He played on many coed sports teams at Indian Township, including softball and volleyball. He spent countless nights over the years camping at Chain Lake and was a huge Red Sox and Patriots fan. Nakoma loved his family to no end, he treated his nieces and nephews like his own, always making time for them, he would wrestle, joke, guide and teach them like a father.
Nakoma was predeceased by his mother, Lorraine; step-mother, Brenda Breeze; a brother, Mark Allen Stevens; a sister, Tiffany Stevens; nana, Mary Gabriel and grandmother, Rita Ranco.
He will be forever in the hearts of his father, Roger Ritter of Indian Township; siblings, Bethany Gabriel, Ryan Gabriel, Anthony Dark, and twin sister, Nikia Neptune and her husband, Darin Campbell, all of Indian Township; fourteen nieces and nephews, Tiffany, Danielle, Glen, Kelsey, Laticia, Adrienne, Noah, Darian, Tré, Malleah, Sylvia, Sipuhsis, Ryan and Alex; several aunts, uncles and cousins; his paternal family in Germany and too many friends to name them all.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Nakoma’s family has made the difficult decision to forgo a public wake. They will hold a private time to gather and celebrate Nakoma in the coming days. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
