CALAIS – Nicholas William DelMonaco, 91, died peacefully September 1, 2014 at Calais Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 7, 1923, in Providence, RI to Peter and Maria Maddelena (DiCenzo) DelMonaco, the oldest of five children. He attended schools in Providence until the late 1930’s when he moved to Maine to join his father Peter and Uncle Thomas DiCenzo in the construction business. He worked for Thomas DiCenzo, Inc. as a superintendent building roads throughout Maine until the untimely death of Thomas DiCenzo in 1973. He then took over as President of the company until he stepped aside from day to day operations in 1998. He was a member of the Maine Better Transportation Association and Associated General Contractors of Maine. He was a great supporter of the Calais Recreation Department and was instrumental in creating many of the present recreation areas in Calais. In addition to his parents Nick was predeceased by his sister Anna and brother-in-law Harold, his brother William and sister-in-law Phoebe and a special uncle and aunt, Tom and Lydia. He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years Geraldine McKay; two sons Nicholas Jr. and his wife Pam and Thomas and his wife Mary; grandchildren Jennifer, Nick, and Adrian, Julie, Jessica and Katie; great-grandchildren Jack, Brynne, Emma, Ethan, Isaac, Shane, Max and Madeline, Lena, Hannah, Brooke, MacKenzie and Mia; brothers, Edmund and his wife Margaret, Peter and his wife Irene and their families and many devoted nieces, nephews and cousins. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Calais Cemetery.
