Obituary for Norman M Barnes

PEMBROKE – Norman M. Barnes, 65, died on September 20, 2009 in a Bangor Hospital with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. Norman was born on September 29, 1943 in Pembroke to Lansing “Dike” and Blanche (Seavey)Barnes. After serving in the US Navy Norman married Lois Babin on May 14,1966. They lived together in Malden, MA for most of their marriage before moving back to his home town of Pembroke. He was an active member of Sherman Bros. post # 3 American Legion in Calais and a life member of the Malden Mass. VFW Post, #639. Norman worked for 32 years driving for UPS; he was an easy-going man with a kind heart who loved his family very much. Norman was predeceased by his parents; he is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Lois (Babin) two sons, Chris and his late wife Deanna of Atkinson, NH and Tracey and his wife Jennifer of Haverhill, MA; a brother Preston and a sister, Janice Scanlon, both of Pembroke; Norman was also a loving grandfather to Cameron, Ryan and Kyle Barnes of Haverhill, MA and was an uncle to many nieces and nephews. Norman will be greatly missed by many; he was a great friend to all. A memorial service will be held on October 4th at 1:00 at the VFW Post 639 in Malden, MA. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on October 10th at Calais Cemetery with Father David Sivret officiating. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1055, Indianapolis, IN 46206 or the VFW scholarship fund at vfw.org. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais – Eastport.
