Calais – Norman John Dineen, 75, passed away Monday, April 19, 2010 at a Bangor hospital following a brief and courageous battle with Leukemia. Norman was born in Calais on April 6, 1935, son of the late Daniel and Marjory (Thompson) Dineen. He graduated from Calais Memorial High School, Class of 1953. He joined the U.S. Navy and served with the Charleston Group Atlantic Reserve Fleet Submarine Division. Norman returned to Maine and married June Johnson on June 11, 1960. He graduated from the University of Maine in Orono with a bachelor’s of science degree in Forestry in 1964. Norman was employed as a project manager for Weyerhaeuser Company for 27 years, retiring in 1990. After his retirement, he spent several years as a consultant, helping build plants in Singapore and throughout North America. Norman returned back to Calais where he and his wife continued with their consulting firm, NJD & Associates. Norman was a member of Sherman Bros. Post #3 American Legion in Calais, B.P.O.E. Elks Club in Sanford, N.C., U.S. Submarine Veterans Inc, and the U.S.S. Bergall Assoc. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Douglas Dineen. Surviving are his loving wife of 49 years, June Dineen; two children, Timothy S. Dineen and his wife Gloria of Raleigh, NC, and Deborah J. Becker and her husband James of Calais; four grandchildren, Nicholas Dineen of Raleigh, NC, and Erica, Eliza Jane and Evaloni Dahlin, all of Seattle, WA; a sister, Deanna Crosby and her husband Al of Highland, CA; three brothers, Vincent Dineen and his companion Janet Ketchen of Meddybemps, Dayton Dineen and his wife Eunice of Calais, and William Dineen and his wife Carole of Calais; two sisters-in-law, Barbara D’Alessandris of Baden, PA, and Dorothy Beaton of Longview, WA; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
