Norman Eugene Fenlason, 92, passed away Friday, September 6, 2024, at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Norman was born in Calais on October 7, 1931, son of George Fenlason and Gladys (Redding) Fenlason.
A proud graduate of Princeton High School, Class of 1949, Norman showed his patriotism by enlisting in the U.S. Navy. Upon returning to his beloved Maine, he furthered his education at Husson College, where he laid the foundation for a remarkable career in banking. He began his professional journey at a finance company in Bangor, and on September 14, 1963, he married Judith Bohanon, the love of his life. Together, they ventured to New Hampshire, where Norman continued to excel in his banking career with Indian Head National Bank, now known as Fleet Bank. His dedication and hard work led him to various prestigious positions, ultimately retiring as Vice President.
Norman found solace in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was taking peaceful drives or meticulously tending to his lawn. An avid sports enthusiast, he passionately followed hockey, with a particular admiration for the Boston Bruins.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, survived by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Judy Fenlason; their three children, Dawn Roy and her husband Marc of Frostproof, FL, Craig Fenlason and companion Julie Palazzo of Nashua, NH, and Glenn Fenlason and companion Carrie Poliquin of Groton, MA. Norman’s heart was further enriched by eight grandchildren and their spouses: Ben, Brandon, Brent, Bryan and wife Candace, Evan and companion Ashley, Adam and companion Ally, Miranda, and Steven, along with four great-grandchildren—Chase, Mia, Paislee, and Kinsley—and an expected great-grandson arriving in March 2025; a brother John Fenlason of WA; brother-in-law Monte Bohanon of Baileyville; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Dwelley of Princeton and Evelyn Corbett of Baileyville; and many nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered fondly by his two “grand-dogs,” Otis and Turbo. In addition to his parents, Norman was predeceased by a brother Merle Fenlason.
Norman Fenlason’s spirit and kindness touched the lives of many, and his memory will forever remain a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew him.
A private burial will take place in the Woodland Cemetery, Baileyville. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home.
