Norman Richard (87) of Calais, Maine passed away on February 13, 2024. He was born to parents Edward and Exelda Richard in Baileyville, Maine.
After graduating from high school Norman enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the USS Rankin from 1954 to 1958 and the United States Naval Reserve from 1958-1962. He returned to Baileyville and married Janet in 1958. They were married for 45 years. Norman began working at St. Croix Paper Company (Georgia Pacific) in Baileyville in 1958 and retired from there in 1996.
Norman was predeceased by his wife Janet, his parents Edward and Exelda, his brothers and their spouses Martin and Gloria, Leo and Betty, and his brothers-in-law Kip McLaughlin and Bob MacIntosh.
Norman is survived by his daughters Judy (Steve) Marvin and Cindy (John) Peterson, his sister Rita McLaughlin, his grandchildren Abigail Marvin, Christopher (Caitlyn) Peterson, Shiloh (Ariel) Marvin, Nicholas Marvin and Megan Peterson and his great grandchildren Violet Marvin, Hazel Marvin and Charlotte Peterson. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Ed (Susie) Richard who he thought of as a son, Sandy (Andy) Litcher, Marion (John) Wyss, Pam Richard, Rita Richard, Marty (Laurie) Richard and several great nieces and nephews.
Norman was happiest when he was spending time with his grandchildren and was so proud of all of them. He was very active with the American Legion Post# 23 of Baileyville and the Catholic Church in Baileyville and Calais.
Norman had a great sense of humor and will be remembered for having a huge smile for everyone that he met.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Woodland Cemetery, Ryan Rd, Baileyville. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
