Lubec – Owen Ralph Taylor, 78, passed away Monday, June 5, 2017 at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Owen was born in Lubec on April 29, 1939, son of Owen and Mary (Campbell) Taylor.
After graduating from Lubec High School, Class of 1957, he furthered his education at the University of New Hampshire, where he majored in Finance & Accounting. Owen then entered the U.S. Army, serving with the 117th Transportation Co. during the Vietnam War. Following his service, he returned to Maine and worked as a manager for Public Finance in both Ellsworth and Massachusetts. In 1978, Owen had to move back to Lubec to help take care of his mother. While there, he assisted his father in the family store, Taylor’s Discount, in West Lubec.
Owen was a member of the Stuart-Green Post 65 American Legion in Lubec, attended the West Lubec Methodist Church, and enjoyed reading, watching television, and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Owen was predeceased by his sister Nettie; and three cousins, Leone, Louise and Marilyn. Surviving are his dear friends, William and Mona Love of Perry; and several cousins.
A graveside service will be held at a later date in Greenlawn Cemetery, Lubec. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
