Pamela D. Oakes

March 15, 1954 — September 30, 2022

Baileyville

Pamela ‘Pam’ Oakes passed away September 30, 2022, after a long illness surrounded by family at home. Pam was born in Calais, ME to Charles and Miriam (Mitzi) Woolf Leighton. After graduating from Woodland High School in 1972, Pam married her true love, and best friend Lloyd Oakes. Together they started a family and remained living in Baileyville for their 50 years together.

Pam worked at Georgia Pacific in the forestry department planting trees and later at the OSB plant. Pam spent many years of her life volunteering with local organizations, making crafts, and crocheting. Pam started making wreaths at 13 with her mother and continued making them until she was unable to in 2021. Pam had another passion, driving her 1939 Chevy to car shows throughout Maine with her husband and the Downeast Cruisers.

Pam was predeceased by her parents, her in-laws Ralph and Louise Oakes, a brother Charles Leighton, and a son in law Dan Bertaux.

Surviving are her husband Lloyd, a brother Stephen Leighton and fiancé Charlotte, daughter Avis and son in law Shawn Miller, daughter Karen Bertaux, grandchildren Mackenzie and husband Andrew Tilton, Miranda Newman, Matthew and Myra Miller, her great grandson Barrett Nicholas, in laws Janet Leighton, Wayne and Paula Oakes and Gerald and Virginia Oakes, and many nieces and nephews. Pam had many special lifelong friends, too many to name but they know how deeply special they are.

There will be no services at this time. A burial will take place when Pam can once again be reunited with her partner for life and eternity. There will be a blessing of the cars and drivers in memory of Pam at the Octoberfest Car Show in Baileyville following the parade, Saturday, October 8th at 11:00. The car show will be at the Woodland High School. Donations can be made to the Car Show in memory of Pam. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
