Calais – Paul Raymond Lister, 94, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Calais Regional Hospital. Paul was born in St. Stephen, NB, on August 9, 1920, son of the late Gregory and Ethel (Love) Lister. He worked for Haley’s Lumber until enlisting in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 to serve in WWII. After the war he returned home and worked at W.T. Grant, where he met his love, Anna Hilda Menges. They were united in marriage on April 19, 1973, and together started The Kinder Shop in Calais which they owned and operated until they retired in 1986. Paul served as a scout master in St. Stephen for several years and was a member of the First Congregational Church in Calais where he served as a Deacon. He was Past Master of Alley Lodge #14 in Upper Mills, NB, a member of Victoria Lodge #26 in St. Stephen, Past Worthy Patron of Trilby Chapter #89 O.E.S. in Trilby, FL, a member of and held offices in Pennamaquan Chapter #146 O.E.S. in Pembroke, and Orion Chapter #45 O.E.S. in Calais. Paul also was a member of Anah Temple Shrine in Bangor. He enjoyed boating, traveling, wintering in Florida, spending time at his cottage on Cathance Lake, and most importantly being with his loving wife Hilda.
In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by his wife Hilda; a son Robert Courtney Lister; two sisters, Irene Eisner and Elise Lister; three brothers, Kenneth, Carl, and Norman Lister; and a step-son Stephen Straub. Surviving are his three children, Paul Lister and wife Peggy of St. Stephen, Gary Lister and wife Betty of Rollingdam, NB, and George Lister and companion Bryant Germain of Calgary, AB; two step-children, Ingrid Morton and her husband Richard of Columbia, MD, and Christine Straub of Glenburn; ten grandchildren, Richard and Jeff Morton, Craig Straub, Erica Mutty, Nancy, Mark, Tanya, Robert and Donald Lister, and Debbie Smearer; and several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Friday, October 3, 2014 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A celebration of Paul’s life will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2014 at the First Congregational Church, 21 Calais Ave., Calais. Burial will follow in the West Ridge Cemetery in Cooper. Donations in Paul’s memory may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
