Eastport – Paul Clifton Thompson, 71, passed away following a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 with his loving family by his side. Paul was born in Robbinston on April 23, 1942, son of the late Clifton and Pauline (Cline) Thompson. He attended Shead Memorial High School and worked for Paispearl in Eastport until their closing in 1973. On October 25, 1963, he married Cheryl St. Lawrence in Eastport. Paul then worked for Guilford Industries, Raye’s Mustard Mill, and Connors Aquiculture until he started his career with the Eastport School Department. Initially Paul was employed as a bus driver and then eventually became the custodian for Shead High School.
For forty years, Paul took great pride in tending to the flag at Bayside Cemetery. He enjoyed doing yard work and going for rides in his truck, usually ending up at the breakwater. Paul was a quiet man who could speak volumes without speaking a word.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl Thompson; two sisters, Barbara Camick and husband James of Eastport, and Toby Urquhart and husband Glynn of Eastport; sister-in-law Vicky Collins and husband Tommy of Eastport; two brothers-in-law, Darrell St. Lawrence and wife Carol of Hudson, and Richard Mealy of Eastport; his Goddaughter Stephanie Lewey of Perry; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews; and one great-great niece; numerous cousins and friends; and his feline companion Sammy.
A celebration of Paul’s life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Bayside Cemetery in Eastport. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport. In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul’s memory may be made to Sarah’s House of Maine, PO Box 931, Bangor, ME 04402.
