Paul David Waycott

Calais – Paul David Waycott, 65, passed away Friday, July 10, 2015 surrounded by his family at Maine Veteran’s Home in Bangor. Paul was born in Calais on December 22, 1949, son of the late Norman and Lillian Helen (Mahar) Waycott Sr. After graduating from Calais Memorial High School he worked for Thomas DiCenzo until enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1969. Paul served his country as a radio operator stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War. Following his enlistment he returned home to Calais and went back to work for Thomas DiCenzo and also enlisted in the Army National Guard. On July 4, 1975, he married Sharon Demmons. In 1976 Paul started his career as a painter for Georgia Pacific, retiring from Domtar in 2005. In the 1990’s, Paul also retired from the Army National Guard with over 22 years of service. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Calais, the Quarter Century Club, and a former member of the American Legion and the Lion’s Club. Paul was a train enthusiast and enjoyed modeling railroads, cooking, landscaping, and gardening. His most cherished moments were those times spent with his family.

In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by two brothers, Norman and Roger; and two sisters, Judy and Mary. Surviving are his loving wife of 40 years, Sharon Waycott; three children, Paula Cleghorn and husband Perry of Alberta, Canada, Heather Gidney and husband Jeff of Calais, and Heidi Newell and husband Dale of Calais; six grandchildren, Matthew Adams and wife Holly of Alberta, Canada, Dylan and Kassi Gidney of Calais, and Melissa Huang and Trinity and Daniel Newell of Calais; two great-grandchildren, Ava and Adeline Adams; two brothers, Robert Waycott and wife Ann of Calais, and Gale Waycott and companion Teresa Rowe of Wilton; three sisters, Susie Brown and husband Gerald of Alberta, Canada, June Kinney and husband Ronnie of St. Stephen, NB, and Cindy Polk and husband Phil of Princeton; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Visiting hours will be held 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A celebration of Paul’s life will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, at Second Baptist Church, 21 Church St., Calais. Burial with military honors will follow in Calais Cemetery.
