Pembroke – Pauline Louise Stanhope, 65, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at a Bangor hospital. Pauline was born in Calais on December 26, 1945. She graduated from Pembroke High School as Valedictorian, Class of 1963. On August 10, 1963, she married F. Eugene Stanhope in Pembroke. After raising her two sons, Pauline began working as a secretary for Calais Regional Hospital and later with Eastport Health Center, retiring in 2008. She was also significant in the operation of Stanhope’s Mobil in Pembroke with her husband and father-in-law. Pauline was very community oriented. She was active with the Pembroke Fourth of July Committee, Pembroke School Board, assisted with writing the Pembroke History Book for its 150th Anniversary, Den Mother for Cub Scouts, Rebekahs, Grange, and drove area children from their basketball practice at Washington Academy. She was a member of Iron Works United Methodist Church and enjoyed camping, making wreaths, cooking, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Pauline was predeceased by her husband F. Eugene Stanhope; her father Ernest Mains; a brother Dale Mains; and her mother & father-in-law Gladys and Milton Stanhope. Surviving are her mother Marguerite Mains of Pembroke; two sons, Kevin Stanhope and his wife Paula, and Mark Stanhope and his wife Michelle, all of Pembroke; four grandchildren, Shelby and Candace Stanhope of Pembroke, Justin Stanhope and his companion Emily Edgecomb of Ellsworth, and Matthew Stanhope of Pembroke; a brother Dennis Mains of Pembroke; brother-in-law Richard Stanhope and his wife Janice of Pembroke; nephew Greg Stanhope and his wife Dawn of East Hampton, CT; niece Diane Bailey and her two children Courtney and Chelsea of East Hartford, CT; special cousins Dorothy Johnson of Baileyville and Helen Brown of Pembroke; great aunt Estella Johnson of Baileyville; many other extended family members; and her feline companion Baby. A celebration of Pauline’s life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, January 16, 2011 at the Iron Works United Methodist Church in Pembroke with a time of fellowship to follow.
