Princeton – Pauline Elizabeth “Polly” Wookey, 91, passed away Saturday, August 04, 2012 at Quarry Hill Nursing Home in Camden. Polly was born in Waterbury, CT on January 13, 1921, daughter of the late Percy and Grace (McKnight) Wilcox. She graduated from Crosby High School, Class of 1938, and attended Post Junior College where she studied secretarial courses. Polly’s first job was working at Chase Brass & Copper in Waterbury for $12 a week. She was active in Rainbow Girls, where she met her future husband Fred, who was a member of the DeMolay. After a short courtship they were married on June 20, 1942. When her husband was transferred for work, she began working at Pratt & Whitney in West Hartford. In 1951, Polly went to work for Aetna Insurance Company. While employed with Aetna, she was able spend her summers on Big Lake with her children. Eventually she retired in 1970 as supervisor in the Group Statistical Department. After her retirement, Polly and Fred lived in New York, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and finally to Princeton. She was a member of Princeton Congregational Church where she served as Treasurer, Princeton Grange #293, Princeton Woman’s Club where served as President as well as in other offices, and Washington County Woman’s Club where she served as Treasurer. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband Frederick Wookey Sr.; and her two brothers, Irving and Douglas. Surviving are her two children, Frederick Wookey Jr. and his wife Charlotte of Pottstown, PA, and Joan Peckham and her husband Donald of Hope; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will begin 1 p.m. Monday, August 13, 2012 at Princeton Congregational Church until the time of service, 2 p.m. with Pastor Ray Morse officiating. Burial will be after at Lakeview Cemetery in Plantation 21. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
