Princeton – Percy Edgar “Squint” Sprague, 85, died Saturday, September 8, 2007 at Calais Regional Hospital. Percy was born in Grand Lake Stream, October 16, 1921, son of the late Ernest and Elisabeth “Lizzie” (Bacon) Sprague. He married Laura Bailey on March 28, 1938. They moved to Portland where he worked at the area shipyards. After a couple of years, they moved back to Princeton and in 1945, Percy joined the U.S. Army where he served as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Div. during WWII. Percy returned home and worked as a logger. In 1958 he started his employment with Quoddy Lumber in Princeton, where he worked until their closing in 1982. During his retirement years, Percy stayed busy sharpening saws. Percy was an avid Red Sox fan. Besides his parents, Percy was predeceased by his wife Laura; a daughter, Patricia Sprague; and a brother, Herbert Sprague. Surviving are his three children, Roger Sprague of Yuma, AZ, Robert Sprague and his wife Karen of Bellingham, WA, and Wanda McClure of Princeton; two sisters, Ruth Williams and Beulah Moore; two sisters-in-law, Lillian Bailey and Beatrice Bagley; and a brother-in-law, Earl Bailey, all of Grand Lake Stream; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and his many friends at Peabody Estates in Princeton. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, September 14, at the Village Cemetery in Grand Lake Stream. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais.
