Baileyville – Peter Donald Mercier, 68, passed away with his family by his side on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Calais Regional Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. Peter was born in St. Stephen, NB, on October 8, 1946, son of the late Donald and Anona (West) Mercier. After graduating from Woodland High School, Class of 1964, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served as a diesel mechanic. Following his enlistment, Peter returned home to Baileyville and started his career with St. Croix Paper Company. On May 28, 1977, he married Pamela Yates in Grand Lake Stream. Peter was employed with the paper company until his passing, having 46 years of service. He was a member of W.T. Wren Post #23 American Legion in Baileyville, the Spednic Club, and the Quarter Century Club. Peter loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing pool, and softball.
Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Pamela Mercier; two children, Holly Adams and husband Elston of Baileyville, and Donald Mercier and wife Kacy of West Enfield; three grandchildren, Andrew, Anna, and Aiden; a sister Patricia Coty of Baileyville; two brothers-in-law, Peter “Papa” Yates of Grand Lake Stream, and David Brown of Arkansas; three nieces, Angela Demmons, Alexis Scanzani, and Claire Coty; his friend and fishing buddy Michael Smith of Alexander; and his feline companion Jessie.
A celebration of Peter’s life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 20, 2014 at People’s United Methodist Church in Baileyville. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
