Obituary for Philip George McDowell

Princeton – Philip George McDowell, 72, passed away March 16th at home.

He was born July 25, 1940 in Princeton, son of the late Chester (Chuck) and Marion McDowell. He was a graduate of Princeton High School and served in the National Guard from March 1957 through May 1966. Phil is a past member of the Princeton Fire Department and was a member of Lewy’s Island Lodge #138 A.F. & A. M. He proudly served the Town of Princeton as a Selectman and was a member of the Princeton Rod and Gun Club where he served many terms as President. His cooking skills will be greatly missed, including his toast buttering skills at the Congregational Church on Easter morning!

Phil was a hardworking man who held many jobs throughout the years. He worked at a chicken farm, which would be why he refused to eat chicken ever after! He spent most of his working years working in the woods for Orland Dwelley and Son. Never one to sit still, after retirement he worked at Worcester Wreath and for Murray LaPlante and Sons.

Phil was married to Judith Stevens in Houlton on May 7th, 1966 and together they raised their family in Princeton. His parents; brother, Kenny; infant brother and sister, Peggy; wife, Judy; and son, Kenny predeceased him. Surviving are his children – daughter and son-in-law, Ruth & Ron Seeley of Montville, CT; son, John and daughter, Mary, both of Princeton; and daughter and son-in-law, Lorrie & Louis Nicholas of Mechanicsville, MD. His mother-in-law Lorrie Stevens of Houlton also survives him.

Phil’s favorite people also survive him – all of them grandchildren, some by blood and all by heart – Elizabeth Seeley of Montville, CT; Abigail and Nathaniel Nicholas of Mechanicsville, MD; Erika Brown and Ethan Nicholson and Cassandra Brown of Corinth.

Many nieces, nephews, additional family members and friends, including special friends, Brent and Cindy Bailey and Jimmy and Linda Brown, will also fondly remember him.

There are so many special memories of Phil. He was one of a kind and will be truly missed.

We will remember and celebrate his life 1 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the Princeton Rod and Gun Club. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
