Indian Township – Philip Joseph Sockabasin, 92, died Monday, January 29, 2007 at a Calais hospital. Philip was born at Peter Dana Point, January 5, 1915, son of the late Everett and Alice (Lola) Sockabasin. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army in China, Burma, and the India Theatre. Philip married Christine Sopiel on March 18, 1959 at Peter Dana Point. He was a self employed logger and in his earlier years, Philip was a left-handed pitcher, playing baseball for many years. He enjoyed trapping, carpenter work, gardening, driving his 4 wheeler, and an avid Red Sox fan. Philip was predeceased by his loving wife, Christine; five sisters, Lena Paul, Lillian Gabriel, Ada Tomah, Elizabeth Sockabasin, and Mary Sockabasin; and three brothers, Lola, Samual, and William Sockabasin. Surviving are his daughter, Victoria Boston and husband Donald of Peter Dana Point; a sister, Edith Sappier of Perth Andover, N.B.; five grandchildren, Christine Cooper, Roy Dana III, Jesse Bailey and husband Daniel, Donald Boston III, and Philip Boston; three great-grandchildren, Raven Plourde, Xavier Cooper, and Weston Bailey; a special friend, Adam Zilenski; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at his home, 477 Peter Dana Point Rd., at Peter Dana Point starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday until 9 a.m. Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Frank Morin 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anne’s Mission, Peter Dana Point. Burial will follow in the Tribal Cemetery.
