Obituary for Rae Spear DiMauro

Portland – Rae Spear DiMauro, 89, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2017 at Springbrook Center in Westbrook. Rae was born on June 19, 1927 to Raye and Hazel (Shaw) Spear in Eastport.

She attended Elementary School in Eastport before her family moved to Portland where she graduated from Portland High School, class on 1945. Rae began work with Canal Bank in Portland for a short time before beginning her career with AT&T where she eventually retired as a supervisor at New England Telephone Company in 1985. After retirement from the telephone company she continued to work for several years as an agent for Maine Insurance Agency.

Rae enjoyed knitting, quilting and doing counter cross stitching. She loved to play bingo and was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins. She made wonderful memories traveling the country, particularly out west, to Las Vegas and national parks with her ex-husband, Marty, and friends Gordon and Marjorie Finn.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her ex-husband, Marty DiMauro and sister Carolyn Speck.

She will be sadly missed by her two children, Susan DiMauro of Portland and Donald DiMauro and his wife Kathy of South Portland; her grandchildren, Steve Virgilio, Dawn and her husband David Whitten and their children, Nicholas, Delaney and Chloe, grandson Andrew DiMauro and his wife Jenn and their children, Andrea and Rachel and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Eastport in the spring. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
