Rae June Sawyer

Pembroke – Rae June Laslie Sawyer, 82, widow of Roy C. Sawyer, passed away at an Ellsworth hospital on December 1, 2012 following a short illness. Rae was born in Pembroke on June 26, 1930, the youngest child of the late Mary and Boynton Laslie. She married Roy Sawyer on December 4, 1948. Rae and Roy lived in the Sawyer home in Pembroke until he passed away in March, 1982, and Rae maintained the home there until her passing. Rae was a graduate of Pembroke High School, Class of 1947, and was Valedictorian of her class. Rae is survived by her sister Mary Page of FL; sisters-in-law Eleanor Baker of Calais, Thursa Sawyer, Ruth Sawyer and Florence Hatton, all of Charlotte; and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind special friends Roy Storey and Grace Curtis. In addition to her parents, Rae was predeceased by her husband Roy; sister Frances Horodysky; and her brother Harry Leslie. Rae was a life-long lover of all things in nature and spent many hours feeding her birds and caring for her beloved cats, Music Maker and Bones. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Clarkside Cemetery in Pembroke. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
