Indian Township – Ray Matthew Sockabasin, 18, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, July 04, 2013 as a result of an automobile accident. Ray was born in Bangor on June 26, 1995. He was a student at Cobscook Community Learning Center and enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his 4-wheeler and dirt bike, snowmobiling, mudding, collecting unique rocks, and taking care of animals. Ray had aspirations to follow his father’s footsteps and work in forestry.
Surviving are his parents, Raphael R. Sockabasin and Sandra Melanson of Indian Township; his biological mother Micheal Phelps of Baileyville; three sisters, Samantha, Amanda, and Laura; one brother, Raphael A.; a special uncle, Jason; grandparents and great-grandparents; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends. Ray will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visiting hours will begin 12 noon Sunday, July 7, 2013 at his parents’ home, 508 Peter Dana Point Rd., Indian Township, until 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Rob Lupo 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, at St. Ann Church, Peter Dana Point. Burial will follow in the Tribal Cemetery. Donations in Ray’s memory may be made to Cobscook Community Learning Center, Community Year High School Program, 10 Commissary Point Rd., Trescott, ME 04652.
