Richard C. Glidden

Calais

Richard Charles Glidden (Dick) passed away April 7, 2023 after a long illness.  He was born in Baileyville, Maine  on January 11, 1934. son of Frank A. Glidden Sr. and Jeanette Irene (Craig) Glidden.

As a young man he played basketball and baseball and was a fan of the Red Sox.  He enlisted in the Navy after high school and fought in the Korean war aboard the USS Soley destroyer.  Following his service, he returned home and became the manager of Woolworth’s Department Store for several years until starting his career with the State of Maine managing liquor stores, initially in Baileyville and later in Calais from which he retired.  Richard enjoyed watching baseball and was an avid Red Sox fan.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 53 years Dorothy; and his brother Frank Glidden Jr. He is survived by son Michael and wife Rhonda of Portland, grandson Sean of CT, sisters Gloria Grant of Hudson, ME and Marilyn McQuade of Marshfield, MA, and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor for the excellent care provided Richard.

A graveside service will held 2 p.m. Friday, September 15, 2023, in the Calais Cemetery.  Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
