Obituary for Richard Albah Miles

Baileyville – Richard A. Miles, 72, passed away Monday, January 4, 2016 at his home in Baileyville. Richard was born in Calais on January 21, 1943, son of the late Elliott Raymond Miles and Melva (James) Miles. He graduated from Woodland High School, Class of 1961, attended Higgins Classical Institute in Charleston in 1962, and graduated from University of Maine Orono School of Forestry in 1966 with a BS Degree in Forest Management.

That same year Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving a tour of duty in South Vietnam in 1967 and 1968 with the 518th AG Personnel Service Company, and then was assigned to the Armed Forces Entrance and Examination Station in Springfield, MA in 1968 and 1969. Following his service Richard returned home and worked for Georgia-Pacific Corporation for nearly thirty years as a forester. He then went on to work for Wagner Forest Management Ltd. In Bangor from 1999 until 2004, at which time he started a forestry consulting business in Baileyville until his retirement in 2010.

Richard was a member of the Society of American Foresters, The Maine Tree Farm Committee, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lewy’s Island Masonic Lodge #138 in Princeton, the Spednic Club in Baileyville, Georgia-Pacific Quarter Century Club, and the Princeton Rod & Gun Club.

Surviving are his wife, Anne (Scullin) Miles of Baileyville; daughter Suzanne L. (Miles) Finn and husband Robert and two granddaughters, Fiona and Quinlan of Dedham, MA; stepdaughter Suzanne T. Moffatt and her husband Jeff Brochu of Bangor and granddaughters Robin Clukey of Boston, MA, and Katherine Brochu of Bangor; stepdaughter Yolanda D. Moffatt and husband Rick Randall and grandson Miles A. Randall of Bangor; sister Janice (Miles) Ferry and husband Dwight of Baring, and their sons Robert and wife Jeanne of Princeton, and John and wife Beth of Winslow; a great-nephew Robert Ferry; and great-nieces Michelle Ripley, Elizabeth Ferry, and Jennifer Ferry.

In keeping with Richard’s wishes, there will be no services. Donations in Richard’s memory may be made to the Princeton Rod & Gun Club, PO Box 154, Princeton, ME 04668. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
