Obituary for Rita Barr

Pembroke – Rita Barr, 59, died Friday, September 16, 2005, at her home. Rita was born in Brunswick, September 28, 1945, daughter of the late Joseph L. and Rose Anna (Fortin) Philippon. She received a B.S. in Education from University of Maine, Machias, and graduated with a Culinary Arts degree from Southern Maine Vocational Tech. Rita was employed as a teacher for Houlton Vocational Ed, Pembroke Education Tech, and Adult Education in Washington County. She married Robert W. Barr Jr. April 16, 1983 in Perry. Rita was a member of St. John Evangelist in Pembroke and various quilting groups. She enjoyed many different kinds of hand crafts, quilting, culinary arts, and raising animals. Surviving are her husband of over 22 years, Robert W. Barr Jr.; three sisters and three brothers, Sister Mary Rita S.M.S.M. of Waltham, MA, Claude Philippon and wife Barbara of Brunswick, Ben Philippon and wife Trudy of Wayne, NJ, Ursula Desjardins and husband Leo of Brunswick, Andre Philippon of Topsham, and Marie Anita Philippon of Dracut, MA; two nephews, Daniel J. Philippon and wife Nancy of Minn, and their daughter Gracie, and Michael Desjardins and wife Heather of Kittery; and many cousins and dear friends. Friends may call Monday,2–4 & 6–8 p.m., at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday,10 a.m., at St. John The Evangelist in Pembroke, with Rev. Eugene F. Gaffey Celebrant. Burial will follow in Round Pound Cemetery, Charlotte. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
