Eastport – Rita Louise “Nana” Norton, 77, passed away after a short illness at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor on Thursday, March 24, 2022. Rita was born on Beals Island August 25, 1944, daughter of Riley and Beatrice (Kent) Norton, and raised by Solomon and Ruth Alley.
Rita worked at Eastport Nursing Home, Leighton’s Variety, I.G.A., and best known for her years at the Wa-Co Diner. Rita was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She loved spending time with her family, going to her grandchildren’s events, and going out to eat or for coffee with her friends. Rita’s favorite time of year was Christmas.
In addition to her parents, Rita was predeceased by a son Rodney Green Jr.; grandson Dana Bowen Jr.; baby sister Mina; sister Mabel Drisko; and brothers Harleigh Alley and Oscar and Vincent Norton. Rita will be greatly missed by her loving children, Mina Green Bowen and husband Dana Bowen Sr. of Eastport, Arthur Green and wife Amy of Saco, and daughter-in-law Stacy Green; grandchildren Elizabeth Bowen and fiancé Troy Grendell, Clayton Green, Skye Hall and husband Kyle, Victoria Green, Tom Fredette, and Natasha Dana; great-grandchildren, Kiesha, Dana, Abby, Logan, Scarlett, Hudson and Henley; two brothers, Rev. Melrose Norton and wife Sandra of Woodstock, NB, and George Norton of Belfast; sisters-in-law, June and Ruth Norton; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Rita’s Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rita’s memory may be made to the Dana R. Bowen Jr. Scholarship, Shead High School, c/o Bobbie Clark, 89 High St., Eastport, ME 04631. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
