Robert W. Barr Jr

Robert W. Barr Jr., 81, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2022 at the Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough.  Bob was born in Massachusetts on November 13, 1940, son of Robert Barr Sr. and Evelyn (Gale) Barr.

Bob was raised in Massachusetts where he graduated high school.  He moved to Maine to attend University of Maine School of Forestry where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Forestry.  Following college, he moved to Washington County to work for Georgia Pacific, from which he retired.  On April 16, 1983, he married the love of his life, Rita Philippon.  Bob was active in any community he lived in, serving as a volunteer firefighter for over 50 years.  He served on the Pembroke Volunteer Fire Dept. where he served as fire chief for several years.  Bob loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and going for car rides around town.

In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife Rita Barr in 2005.  Surviving are his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sister Mary Rita S.M.S.M. of Waltham, MA, Claude Philippon and wife Barbara of Brunswick, Ben Philippon of St. Paul, MN, Ursula Desjardins and husband Leo of Brunswick, Andre Philippon of Topsham, and Marie Anita Philippon of Topsham; two nephews, Daniel J. Philippon and wife Nancy of Minnesota and their daughter Gracie, and Michael Desjardins and wife Heather of Eliot and their daughter Olivia; dear friends, Charles and Kathy Jones of Pembroke; his pet cow Cookie; and several friends throughout the community.
