Robert George Blaisdell, 86, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at his home in Cutler with his beloved wife, Michelle, by his side. Bob was born on May 14, 1938, in Baldwinsville, New York, son of George and Martha (Wilder) Blaisdell.
After completing his education at Baldwinsville School, Bob dedicated himself to serving his country in the National Guard before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force as an Air Operations Specialist. It was during his time stationed in France that fate brought him together with Michelle Audoire, the love of his life. Their union on July 27, 1965, marked the beginning of a beautiful journey filled with love and adventure.
Throughout his career, Bob worked in various investments while traveling across Europe with Michelle. Eventually, the couple found their way to sunny Florida, where Bob continued to pursue his career until he discovered his true passion in the medical field. Following his heart, he returned to school to become a respiratory therapist. Bob and Michelle later settled in Massachusetts, where he dedicated his years to helping others at Nashoba Valley Medical Center until his retirement.
In retirement, Bob and Michelle embraced the joys of life, wintering in Florida, and enjoying summers in Massachusetts. In 2020, they found a special place in Cutler, where they created new memories in their summer home. Bob's adventurous spirit shone brightly through his travels around the world with Michelle and his younger years, his love for amateur radio.
Bob is predeceased by his parents, George and Martha, and a brother, James. He leaves behind a beautiful legacy through his beloved wife of 59 years, Michelle; three children—Muriel Blaisdell of Jacksonville, FL, Marianne Gansley and her husband Raymond of Knoxville, TN, and Marc Blaisdell and his wife Stacey of Salem, MA; and three cherished grandchildren, Noah and Chloe Blaisdell, and Laurel Gansley. He is also survived by a sister, Jean, from New York; a brother, Richard, from South Carolina; several nieces and nephews; a cousin, Christiane Laurent, from France; and a lifelong friend, Jean Pierre Begin, also from France.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October 25, 2024, at Machias Valley Baptist Church, 8 Broadway, Machias, ME, with Pastor Zach Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow at Acadia National Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
