Obituary for Robert David Foster

Calais - Robert D. Foster Sr. passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2013, peacefully, with his loving family by his side. He was born on August 1, 1936 to Jerome and Carmen (Boyd) Foster. Growing up in the Calais area, Bob came to know many faces and made a lot of friends. If by chance he didn’t know you, he would make it a point to change that. He was a very outgoing man. You would often see him driving around town, out in his yard, or at night parked at the ball field. He was an avid baseball fan loving the Boston Red Sox and was also active in coaching his son in pony and little leagues in Calais. Bob served in the United States Armed Forces and from there returned to Calais to pursue a future with the love of his life, Mabel, and a family that meant the world to him. He worked for 17 years for the City of Calais. He worked to become the Supervisor at the Cemetery and went on to be the Supervisor of the Highway Department. Being the hard worker that he was, Bob also worked on the Calais Fire Department for many years. After retirement, he kept himself busy and active out around his house, watching his granddaughters play sports, and vacations with his family. He was predeceased by his parents, Jerome and Carmen (Boyd) Foster; a sister Olive Pollock; a special sister-in-law Lois Greenlaw; and his loving son and “sidekick” Bobby Jr. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mabel of Calais; two sons, Peter and his wife Cheryl of Calais and Kevin of Bangor; one daughter Carmen and her partner Jane of Milford; six grandchildren, Erin, Julie, Tracie, Tonya, Katie, and Robbie; seven great-grandchildren; a special nephew Bill Greenlaw and his wife Alicia; two sister-in-laws, Pauline McConvey and Marion Brown; and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, September 9, 2013 at the Calais Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Bob’s honor can be made to the Immaculate Conception Church, PO Box 898, Calais, ME 04619. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
